How to travel?

Cheap flights to Riga are short and therefore indeed very cheap. They finish at the International Riga Airport, which is located 10 kilometres away from the city centre. You can cross that distance by bus or in a taxi. The city itself offers antique trams, as well as modern and cosy buses and trolleybuses. If you wish to economize, purchase a multiple day ticket or an e-ticket beforehand.

What to taste?

Latvian cuisine is very similar to the Lithuanian one. We recommend trying several traditional and unique dishes: sour barley soup with milk (skabputra), sweet bread soup, baked herring, and potato salad with meat and herring, called rassols.

The most well-known Latvian dessert is sweet porridge with semi-sour sauce. You can quench your thirst with herb teas, kvass, sap drink, or even curdled milk. In the evening, enjoy some tea or cocktails with the legendary Riga Balsam. It is also a great choice for return gifts.

The modern side of the city is observed in the immense Triangular Bastion or the sophisticated Railway Bridge crossing the Daugava River.

You can retreat to nature in the Kronvalda, Mežaparks, or Esplanade parks, as well as by visiting the Vermanes garden or the Riga Zoo.
