Useful advice for travelling to Seychelles (SYC)

Breathtakingly beautiful and highly contrasting nature leaves no one indifferent. Snow-like white, sandy beaches, thick tropical forests, green mountains, and crystal clear Indian Ocean all await Seychelles’ guests. The 115-island country also offers a wide variety of entertainment possibilities: diving, fishing, various water sports, exotic birds watching, walks in the wild nature areas, and romantic swims in the sea. You will definitely remember your holiday in Seychelles for a very long time, and will leave the country with many adventures, beckoning you to return once again.

Preparing for the trip

There is no visa required to enter the country, but you will have to provide a valid ID and any documents necessary to demonstrate your chosen location of stay for the duration of your holiday. You should also take care of necessary vaccinations. There is no risk of getting infected with any of the usual tropical diseases in Seychelles; however, tourists arriving through territories infected with yellow fever need to provide proof of getting a vaccination against the disease. Other possible risks are hepatitis A and B, typhoid fever, and meningococcal disease, all of which are urged getting vaccinated against. All adults should get re-vaccinated against tetanus and diphtheria if necessary.

Transportation and travel charges

Seychelles is impossible to reach by land, but cheap flights to the island country provide an accessible alternative. After arriving, you will need to take a boat to any desired islands. A wide variety of choices is available: from little boat trips offered by locals to commercial ship trips, ideal for bigger groups of tourists. Inner island travels will be most comfortable if you use a rental car, although bus and taxi services are also available in Seychelles.

Official local currency is called Seychellois rupees (SCR); however, you can also pay for your purchases using euros (many prices are provided in euros as well). Living costs in Seychelles are similar to those in Lithuania. For example, you can buy a bottle of water for about 0.5 to 1 euro, and a pizza will cost you approximately 4 to 7 euros.

Additional information:

  • Seychelles belong to the UTC + 4 time zone.
  • Official languages are Kreol (or Seselwa), French, and English.
  • Distance between Vilnius and Seychelles’ capital city Victoria is equal to 7161 kilometres.

Best return gifts choices

Many tourists choose various souvenirs made from sea shells and corals as return gifts. Hand-made soaps, oils, and creams are also great for this. Your loved ones and friends will be pleasantly surprised with colourful spices, or art and goods made by local craftsmen.
