Black swamp that became the capital of entertainment seekers

Dublin is a city that was established amongst swamps, moors, and reeds. Today Ireland’s capital glimmers with bar lights and echoes with joyous Celtic music, but all this doesn’t take away from the city’s unique history and culture. The amazing unity off all these qualities lets you get to know its Irish soul easily and with mirth.

How to travel?

Cheap flights to Dublin reach their finish in the biggest airport in Ireland. The distance to the city centre is merely 10 kilometres, and you can cover that distance without any difficulties, in a bus or on foot. The southwest part of the country offers tram service, and you can overcome longer distances by trains (DART).

What to taste?

Dublin offers traditional dishes customary to the entirety of Great Britain. Irish breakfast is similar to the English one, and it consists of eggs with bacon and buttered toast with jam. In order to wake up faster, the locals will indulge in some coffee with cream and a splash of whiskey.

Dubliners’ lunch usually consists of some stew with potatoes, lamb neck, and pork sausages. These dishes are served with traditional brown bread, leavened with soda and buttermilk. Lunch meals may also include a roasted pork leg and potato pastries.

Both lunch and light supper usually feature some full-bodied Irish beer. This dark drink can be found in many lists of best dishes and drinks. Ireland is also proud of its seven year old whiskey. It would definitely be a great return gift.

What to see?

One of the most important Dublin buildings is St Patrick’s Cathedral with its pointy turrets, titled the biggest church of Ireland. Also worth seeing is yet other religious building, the castle-like Christ Church Cathedral. Trinity College is another great example of magnificent Irish architecture and is also named the best university in Ireland, famous for its exceptional teaching quality.

Works of classical and modern art can be seen in the National Gallery of Ireland, while conceptual art pieces are presented in the Dublin City Gallery. Also worth paying attention is the Irish Museum of Modern Art where you can see the oldest remaining Irish boat, thousands of stuffed animals, antique furniture, and ceramic works of art.

What to do?

Dublin is open to all kinds of entertainment seekers. If unconventional tours are to your liking, pay a visit to the cemeteries full of ghosts, or the dreadful Kilmanhaim Gaol. All afternoon could be spent in the “Guinness” beer factory and the Irish Whiskey Museums, and you could then apply your newly gained knowledge while visiting some of the famous Irish pubs later in the evening.

If you prefer hiking trips, why not take a walk across the vast Phoenix, and meet the challenge of the Wicklow Mountain trails. Your sailing skills may get perfected by the Dollymount Strand. While visiting these places, you will come to realise that Dublin is just full of great beer, beautiful nature, and friendly locals.
